Support UK Kurdish Activists enduring years of court trials – Write to your MP !

After the Metropolitan police’s counter terrorism unit raided the Kurdish Community Centre (KCC) in Haringey, north London back in November 2024, 6 activists have been arrested on terrorism charges. The trial collapsed, but the state is looking to retrial. We ask all those who support the Kurdish Movement to write to their MP to demand an end to this torturous process and to not submit for retrial.

Dear MP ….

I hope you are well.

I am writing to you as a constituent to express serious concerns regarding the ongoing prosecution of six Kurdish activists following the large-scale police operation carried out on the Kurdish Community Centre in London on 27 November 2024.

As you may be aware, over 800 police officers were deployed during the operation, at enormous public expense, against what has long been a peaceful community and cultural institution serving Kurdish people in the United Kingdom. The Kurdish community in Britain has contributed positively to British society for decades through civic participation, cultural engagement, youth services, women’s programmes, and democratic activity.

Following lengthy proceedings and substantial public expenditure, no conviction has been secured, and the jury was not persuaded that the individuals or institutions involved had engaged in criminal activity. Despite this, there is now discussion of a possible retrial.

I respectfully ask whether you would consider raising this matter with the Attorney General and seeking clarification on the public interest basis for continuing these proceedings.

This concern has become even more significant following major political developments in recent months. On 12 May 2025, the PKK formally announced the dissolution of its organisational structure and the end of its armed struggle, stating that the Kurdish issue should now be resolved entirely through democratic politics. This followed earlier calls for disarmament and a unilateral ceasefire.

Given these developments, many members of the Kurdish community — and wider civil society — are questioning whether the continuation of such prosecutions remains proportionate, justified, or in the wider public interest. At a time when public services and policing resources are under considerable strain, it is reasonable for the public to expect transparency regarding the necessity and purpose of proceedings that have already consumed substantial public resources without resulting in convictions.

I believe this matter raises broader questions concerning civil liberties, proportionality, community relations, and the protection of democratic and cultural institutions within the United Kingdom. Community centres and civic organisations should not be treated with suspicion simply because they represent politically active minority communities.

I would therefore be grateful if you could:

* Raise these concerns with the Attorney General and relevant authorities;
• Seek clarification regarding the continued public interest justification for any retrial or further proceedings;
• Support transparency and proportionality in matters affecting minority communities and democratic civic organisations.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this important issue. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
