Defending Rojava now is defending the world against the phantom of fascism and destruction that is ravaging the world.

Last week it was the women’s council of Aleppo the one who decided to stay and defend the city. A few days ago, it was the jihadist militia who captured the leader of the council and assassinated her. We are, once again, witnessing the horrific attacks of ISIS and how they specifically target women. This was clearly a set of intentions: to stop the people’s liberation, to ostracise women again, to kill our fight for life.

If we look at the landscape around us: negligence, destruction and misery is being served to our comrades all around the world to sustain the war machinery that the economies of western countries we live in depend upon. Who do we want to be as people? What actions will we take to defend humanity? From Rojava to Chiapas, from the people raided in the US to the land workers exploited in the Spanish fields, from Palestina, Sudan and Congo to the Mapuches and the people in Myanmar. What people are doing is fighting for life.

The people in Rojava and in the councils in Syrian cities like Aleppo, Raqqa or Taqba are the ones who defeated the fascism of ISIS when all countries look to the other side. The reality is that the most powerful forces around the world are trying hard to annihilate life, to vanish the hope and with the hope, our certainty that a new world is carried by us. And all we are doing is defending.

Rojava was the beacon of hope that showed us that we can dream bigger, that we can feel stronger, that we can, after all, defend freedom with the joy of those who know that this cause is bigger than ourselves.This revolution is for all of us. it’s a cause for the world

We have in our hands the possibility to keep alive not just a revolution but a whole paradigm to change the world. Building communes, cooperatives, women assemblies and self defense units they are confronting the capitalization of life, the aggressive patriarchal society and the ecological collapse.

Rojava is a direct threat to the current fascist climate and the real capitalism that fuels it. Rojava is a direct hope against the nation state as we know it and the erratic institutions that sustain it. It is the defense of this model that, through the politics and practice of the defense of life, can break the extractivist and patriarchal logic of our current world. Rojava is by far, the biggest asset for a radical and democratic emancipation.

So from here, to the politicians, to the media, to the corporations that sustain the war machinery: speak up and stop this massacre. Demand a ceasefire based on reasonable conditions, demand the recognition of the Autonomous Administration of North Eastern Syria and demand the protection of its civilians.

To the internationalists around the world, to the people who fight for change, to those in all the struggles: for land, for people’s liberation, for the rights of workers, women, peoples of colour, dissident genders, for all who fight racism and fascist, we call on you to stand in solidarity with the people in Rojava and Kurdistan, stand in solidarity with the democratic confederalist revolution and rise, once again, against the politics of death.
