Here is the full new short film for the Freedom for Öcalan campaign’s new video, ‘My Name is Abdullah Öcalan’. It is a journey told in his own words that explores the childhood and defining events that shaped him, weaving together images and quotes from his life and struggle with the histories and experiences of Kurdish societies.
Taking the form of a poem, the film offers a lyrical glimpse into the Kurdish struggle he has led for half a century, tracing threads of the resistance of democratic society through the ages, and of its rebirth through the paradigm of democratic modernity.
“Poetic narrative has been inherent in language itself since its origin. For this reason, there is a close relationship between the poem and the truth. The poem represents the language and truth of the ancient free society, which knew no domination. The first poets were those who explained the truth before the sages and prophets. Poetry and poetic expressiveness of a society’s language bear witness to how free and meaningful its social reality is.” – Abdullah Öcalan
