The Women’s Revolution in Rojava Under Attack – Current Situation and Perspectives

Online Seminar: The Women’s Revolution in Rojava Under Attack – Current Situation and Perspectives
Rojava is under attack once again. The military and political assaults by the Syrian interim government target not just a territory, but a social project that stands for self-determination, democracy, and women’s liberation. The achievements of the women’s revolution, in particular, are coming under severe pressure. War, occupation policies, and patriarchal violence threaten women’s organization, their rights, and daily life in North and East Syria.
This online seminar will explore the current situation in Rojava, the political background of these attacks, and their concrete impact on women, society, and revolutionary structures. The discussion will focus on what recent developments mean for women’s rights, self-determination, and the future of the women’s revolution—and what role international solidarity can play during this critical moment.
Speakers:
• Emine Omer is a coordination member of the Women’s Council of North and East Syria. She lives in Qamishlo and has been politically active in the women’s movement in Rojava for many years. In this seminar, she will report on the situation on the ground and what it means for women’s liberation.
• Heidi Sequenz is a Green Party politician and member of the Vienna Provincial Parliament and is currently visiting Rojava with a European delegation. She will share her firsthand experiences and provide a current perspective from the region.
Moderator:
• Rahila Gupta is a journalist, author, and women’s rights activist from the United Kingdom. She has a long history of feminist and anti-violence work and is the chair of Southall Black Sisters (SBS). She has been in solidarity with the women’s revolution in Rojava for many years and will moderate the online seminar.
