Join us at 6pm on Thursday 12th February at Elm Grove Cafe (89 Elm Grove BN2 3ET) to watch a short film\, share food\, and discuss what we can do to defend the revolution. \nFilm: Berxwedan Jiyane: The Resistance of Tishreen — Tishreen Dam in North-East Syria supplies water to the entire region. In January 2025\, it was attacked in order to break the resistance of the people who\, since 2012\, have built a revolution in the region (also known as Rojava) based on women’s liberation\, grassroots democracy\, and ecology. The people together defended the dam. \nThis will be a fundraiser for the Kurdish Red Crescent\, who are providing medical support to the thousands of internally displaced people in Rojava right now.

War\, occupation policies\, and patriarchal violence threaten women’s organization\, their rights\, and daily life in North and East Syria.This online seminar will explore the current situation in Rojava\, the political background of these attacks\, and their concrete impact on women\, society\, and revolutionary structures. The discussion will focus on what recent developments mean for women’s rights\, self-determination\, and the future of the women’s revolution—and what role international solidarity can play during this critical moment.Speakers:• Emine Omer is a coordination member of the Women’s Council of North and East Syria. She lives in Qamishlo and has been politically active in the women’s movement in Rojava for many years. DESCRIPTION:Event in the EU Parliament : “Defend Rojava\, Defend Democratic Confederalism” \nJanuary 27th 19:00-20:00 \nEuropean Parliament – Room ASP 5E2 \nPress Release: European Parliament Event in Solidarity with Rojava \nOn the 27th of January from 19:00-20:00\, an event titled “Defend Rojava\, Defend Democratic Confederalism” will be held in the European Parliament in Brussels\, Room ASP 5E2 co-hosted by political parties Sinistra Italiana\, Die Linke\, and Enhedslisten. The event will focus on recent existential threats to Kurdish communities and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Speakers will include: \n\nIlaria Salis (MEP – Sinistra Italiana)\nOzlem Demiral (MEP – Die Linke)\nPer Clausen (MEP – Enhedslisten; Chair of the Kurdish Friendship Group)\nEyyup Faruk Doru (DEM-PARTI)\nSinan Önal (Foreign Relations Commission of the Kurdistan National Congress)\nShiyar Ali\, Representative of the Autonomous Administration to Europe\nRwaida Al Harfoush\, Representative of the Druze\nMaysoon Majidi (Kurdish refugee in Italy\, Associazione Tre Dita)\nMaria Edgarda Marcucci\, activist and writer\nLudovica Intelisano (Academy of Democratic Modernity)\n\nThe event description can be found below: \nThe situation in Aleppo\, North-East Syria\, and Rojava is extremely critical. \nThe Autonomous Administration and the project of Democratic Confederalism are under full-scale attack and are facing an existential threat from the new Syrian regime led by al-Jolani. \nThis assault is being carried out in coordination with Erdoğan’s militias\, whose objective is to weaken and dismantle the Kurdish liberation movement\, and with international powers that have cowardly abandoned the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF)\, first and foremost the United States. \nThe European Union also bears major responsibility. Following the launch of the large-scale offensive\, Ursula von der Leyen visited Damascus to meet al-Jolani\, where a diplomatic and economic agreement was reached that is directly contributing to the current situation. \nAs Sinistra Italiana\, Die Linke\, and Enhedslisten\, we strongly condemn the conduct of the European Union and reaffirm our full support for Democratic Confederalism as a political project grounded in participatory democracy\, self-determination\, pluralism\, gender equality\, and eco-social justice. \nWith this event\, we aim to provide a platform for comrades from the Democratic Confederalist movement\, as well as for all those who stand in solidarity with them.
